ANDOVER — The state Department of Transportation is designing a full replacement of the traffic signal equipment where U.S. Route 6 and Route 87 meet on Jonathan Trumbull Highway.

The Andover intersection is one of 17 included in State Project 0171-0535. CTDOT says the broader project will upgrade applicable pedestrian features, including countdown indications, accessible pushbuttons and sidewalk ramps, while coordinating with each municipality during design.

The agency’s current schedule calls for design to be completed in May 2028 and construction to begin in spring 2029. Those dates are conditional on project acceptance, available funding and any required right-of-way and environmental permits, so they should not be read as a construction contract or road-closure notice.

CTDOT lists the financing as 80% state and 20% federal. The release does not yet provide an Andover-specific construction duration, detour plan or lane-closure schedule.
