WINDSOR LOCKS — Hartford Line and Amtrak trains will begin using the new Windsor Locks station at 231 Main Street on Sunday, October 18, state transportation officials announced after an October 13 ribbon cutting.

The station relocates passenger rail and bus service closer to downtown housing, businesses, Town Hall and the public library. It also creates a direct transfer point for CTtransit Route 24 service to Bradley International Airport.

State officials say Route 24 trips to Bradley’s Terminal A will take about 12 minutes. Buses are scheduled every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 40 minutes on weekends; routes 96E and 905 Express will also serve the station.

The opening schedule calls for 31 weekday trains, 23 Saturday trains and 24 Sunday trains. The first listed service begins at 4:53 a.m. on weekdays and 6:19 a.m. on weekends. Travelers should check Hartford Line, Amtrak or CTtransit before departure because individual schedules and service notices can change.

Passenger features include 160 parking spaces, electric-vehicle chargers, bicycle racks, a roughly 500-foot accessible high-level platform, heated waiting areas, canopies, Wi-Fi, ticket machines, information displays and emergency call boxes. Amtrak identifies the location as unstaffed and advises passengers to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.

The overall project is budgeted at $121.2 million: $46.1 million for station and roadway work and $75.1 million for track and pedestrian-bridge improvements, according to the governor’s office. The announced funding mix is about 85% state and 15% federal.

Opening the station does not mark the end of construction. CTDOT says track work remains underway and full project completion is anticipated in spring 2028. The remaining work includes track realignment, a second bypass track, upgraded signals and crossings, Main Street reconstruction and a pedestrian connection to the Windsor Locks Canal Trail.
