Connecticut’s pheasant and several small-game hunting seasons open Saturday, October 17, according to an October 2 DEEP announcement. Closing dates differ by species and are listed in the state’s 2026 hunting guide.
The fall firearms turkey season opened October 3 and runs through October 31. Hunters should consult the official guide for the specific license, stamp, location and equipment requirements that apply to their activity.
DEEP says an October 1 change allows verbal landowner permission for Sunday small-game hunting on private land. Deer and turkey hunting on private land still require written permission on the state’s form.
Sunday hunting remains closed on state and public lands and waterways, the agency says. Private-land Sunday exceptions include migratory birds and hunting within 40 yards of a public blazed trail.
DEEP recommends that people visiting state lands wear fluorescent orange during hunting season. These are statewide rules and seasonal notices; no special local closure or emergency is announced here. Consult the linked agency guidance before heading out.
