WILLIMANTIC — Eastern Connecticut State University has joined the American Association of Colleges and Universities’ 2026–27 Institute on AI, Pedagogy and the Curriculum, bringing faculty and academic leaders into a coordinated planning effort on artificial intelligence in education.

The university’s September 3 announcement describes a program running from September 2026 through April 2027. Participants receive guidance, design sessions and customized mentoring as their institutions develop action plans.

Eastern lists several local goals: structured professional development for faculty, an external AI advisory group, a curriculum-integration work plan, and student preparation that combines practical skills with an ethical framework. It also identifies a longer-term goal of becoming a community resource for AI education.

A program description published by SUNY New Paltz’s Faculty Development Center explains that the same national institute is online and team-based. It addresses academic integrity, ethics and equity alongside workforce preparation and approaches to teaching, curricula and institutional operations.

That broader description helps distinguish the initiative from simply introducing a new software tool. Questions about assessment, appropriate use and student learning sit alongside technical skills in the program’s stated scope.

For Eastern students and faculty, the verified development is participation and the announced planning agenda. The sources reviewed do not identify a completed campuswide grading rule, mandatory course change or new student-use policy. Those outcomes would require a later university announcement before they could be reported as established requirements.
