Ellington is considering a one-year pause on data-center development while it studies permanent zoning rules, according to Patch and the town meeting records linked in its report.
The Planning and Zoning Commission agreed September 28 to let Town Planner Lisa Houlihan submit a formal moratorium application. Public notice and a hearing are still required before a pause can take effect.
First Selectman Laurie Burstein told selectmen October 5 that officials hoped to have a moratorium in place by November 1. Concerns included agricultural land and the energy and other resources required by large facilities.
The intended pause would allow comparison with other towns’ regulations. The reporting does not identify a pending data-center application, and the final language and treatment of earlier applications were unresolved.
An anticipated effective date is not proof of adoption. This report describes the proposal and documented discussion, not an existing ban.
