Andrew James Bennett, 22, of Old Lyme, was accused of driving 95 mph in a posted 45 mph Gold Star Bridge construction zone, according to WFSB’s October 7 report attributed to Connecticut State Police.
The stop occurred Tuesday, October 6, around 5:40 p.m. in New London while troopers were conducting traffic enforcement, the report says.
Troopers said Bennett complied with the stop but initially pulled onto the left shoulder before officers guided him to a safer location.
WFSB reports charges of reckless driving in a construction zone and failure to stop on the right side of the road. Bennett was released on a $1,000 bond with an October 20 court date.
State police’s public release index separately identifies the 95-mph stop. The readable media report supplies the detailed account; no court outcome has been verified.
Charges remain allegations. This is a report of an earlier enforcement incident, not a current bridge closure or emergency alert.
