NEW LONDON — Police are asking for information about a man reportedly captured on security footage lifting a dog over the municipal animal shelter’s six-foot perimeter fence on Chester Street early October 12.

Josh Lanier’s report published by AOL places the incident at approximately 1:49 a.m. and says the man walked away afterward. The account attributes the description to New London police; it does not identify the man.

According to that report, staff later found the frightened animal behind a bush. An animal control officer coaxed it out, and shelter staff evaluated it. The dog remained at the facility for care.

CT Insider reporter Josh LaBella also reported the police appeal, attributing it to Chief Brian Wright. That account says investigators released a security-camera still and want to identify and speak with the person about the circumstances. Both articles draw on police information, so their agreement is not the same as two independent eyewitness accounts.

The appeal includes anyone who recognizes the pictured person, knows about the dog’s owner or witnessed overnight activity near the shelter. The published contact number is New London Animal Control, 860-447-5231.

The official social-media release could not be retrieved during this check. No suspect identification, arrest or court outcome has been verified for this article, and it does not characterize the animal’s condition beyond the published account that it is safe and receiving care.
