The Connecticut Siting Council acknowledged the withdrawal of SMART Technology Systems’ Plainfield trash-to-energy petition on October 9 and canceled the October 22 public hearing.
Petition 1719 concerned a proposed 45-megawatt facility east of Black Hill Road and west of the Providence and Worcester Railroad right-of-way. The council’s acknowledgment says the matter is no longer pending before the agency.
In its October 8 withdrawal letter, the applicant said it wanted to examine public concerns and explore a revised proposal. The council said any amended request for that location would require a new petition.
The separate cancellation notice invalidates the October 22 hearing and the associated interrogatory and pre-filed testimony deadlines in the old schedule. Residents should not rely on those dates.
Withdrawal of this petition is not approval or construction authorization, and it does not prove that the applicant will never return. No new replacement filing has been verified in this report.
