Somers is seeking proposals to reuse the former Village Players building at 55 School Street. The town’s request for proposals sets an October 21 deadline at 11 a.m., with sealed responses delivered to the Town Clerk at 600 Main Street.
The approximately 2,200-square-foot building is within Mill Pond Park. Its 1.51-acre primary site includes parking and nearby river-recreation amenities. Businesses, nonprofits and philanthropic ventures may apply; the town gives special consideration to nonprofit plans that improve community life and economic vitality.
Applicants must explain proposed activities, renovation timing and credible funding for both improvements and ongoing operations. The prospective tenant would cover utilities, cleaning and other specified operating expenses.
Patch reports that the Economic Development Commission has suggested ideas such as a café or recreation outfitter. Those are possibilities rather than selected uses. The town’s Special Projects Committee will review submissions and interview finalists through December before making a recommendation to selectmen.
The Board of Selectmen retains authority to accept, reject or require changes. The included sample lease is illustrative; the request does not establish final rent or lease duration.
