WINDHAM — More than 150 students and local volunteers took part in the October 3 Day of Caring, according to Eastern Connecticut State University’s October 6 report.

Participants from Eastern, UConn and United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut collected litter, worked in gardens and completed maintenance projects at more than a dozen locations.

The university identifies beneficiaries including GROW Windham Community Garden, Covenant Soup Kitchen, the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum and the Windham Textile and History Museum.

Eastern attributes a harvest of more than 200 pounds of produce to a student organizer, who said the food went to local co-ops where residents could obtain it without charge.

The account documents a completed volunteer event, rather than an upcoming registration opportunity. The participation and harvest figures are attributed to the university’s report.
